Use Bold Color to Achieve Natural Beauty
Before the Pandemic, I owned one eyeshadow palette, courtesy of Shane Dawson and Jeffrey Star, seven eyeshadow brushes, and one eyelash separator. I owned no mascara so the eyelash separator was really a scary looking torture device.
I had no idea what I was doing.
Eyeshadow was a foreign product that was supposed to look nice on my eyes, but somehow, I managed to make it look clown-like and unsettling. With practice, I managed to make the brown mattes and neutral shimmers appear presentable on my eyelids—presentable meaning invisible to the naked eye. Colorful eyeshadow was avoided at all costs like the plague. I wanted natural, subtle pigment to enhance my eyes, and I was resolute that it was impossible to achieve that with bold colors.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have come here, three years later, to tell you I was wrong. Some of my favorite natural, everyday makeup looks come from those vibrant, extremely pigmented colors I once swore off. Truly, you can use any color and make it natural with a light hand and mindful placement onto the eyelids.
Purples, pinks, berries, and blues are now some of the foundational colors in my eyeshadow collection because of how much I love to use them. Trust me—a not-dense, fluffy eyeshadow brush will change the way you approach eyeshadow. In fact, it completely changed the way I do my makeup.
That vibrant red is suddenly a soft flush of color that enhances your brown eyes. That pastel blue adds the slightest shadow of purple to make your eyes match your cool-toned complexion. That deep berry compliments your pink blush and completes your "blushed" makeup look.
When you use color with intention, the possibilities are endless. Use bold colors to achieve natural beauty.
